Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday took the social channel Twitter and extended his best wishes to the Indian athletes participating in the Commonwealth Games hours before the opening ceremony of the mega event.

 

“All the best to the athletes representing India at the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games! Our sportspersons have worked tremendously hard and the Games will be a wonderful opportunity to showcase their talent. Every Indian is cheering for our contingent,” Modi tweeted.

Rio Olympic medallist Ace Badminton star P V Sindhu will be the flag-bearer at the opening ceremony consisting of 200 Indian athletes.

The Indian squad will also have star wrestler and two time Olympic medallist Sushil Kumar, and five-time world champion Mary Kom, star badminton player Saina Nehwal and shooter Gagan Narang.

The Games, which will see more than 4,500 athletes from 71 nations fighting for 275 gold medals across 23 events, will run through 11 days.
